NORTON: Three men face charges in the theft of seven cars during two break-ins at Fred Martin Motors in Norton.
Demardre T. Sammons, 19, of Akron, appeared Wednesday in Barberton Municipal Court on four counts of motor vehicle theft and one count of breaking and entering.
Norton Police Detective John Canterbury said three cars were stolen Oct. 18 and four cars were taken Nov. 2.
A cleaning crew at Fred Martin Motors reported seeing a black Pontiac Grand Am follow the stolen cars from the lot.
Canterbury said investigators viewed hours of surveillance video before finding footage of the black Pontiac on the Fred Martin lot around 3 p.m. Oct. 31. A man from the Grand Am is seen entering four vehicles on the lot.
Two nights later, a black Grand Am is again seen on the lot near midnight. This time, five men get out of the car and take two 2008 Dodge Rams and two 2009 Dodge Chargers.
A Summit County sheriff's deputy found one of the stolen Dodge Chargers on Nov. 4 while patrolling an Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority development on Brutus Place in Akron.
That led to the arrest of Gregory Lavale Williams, 18, of Akron, on one count of receiving stolen property. Williams has appeared in Akron Municipal Court.
Williams and Sammons are roommates. When detectives visited their Zahn Drive apartment on Nov. 13, they found a black Pontiac Grand Am registered to Sammons.
Police allege that Sammons made the Oct. 31 trip to Fred Martin Motors during business hours to take the keys from the ignitions of the vehicles that were later stolen.
A key to one of the stolen Dodge Chargers was found in the apartment that Williams had been visiting.
A third man, whose name authorities are still trying to determine, has been charged with receiving stolen property. He is accused of crashing one of the vehicles stolen during the Oct. 18 break-in.
Six of the vehicles have been recovered, Canterbury said, but two were wrecked then abandoned.
One vehicle is still missing.
Canterbury said he expects more arrests will be made as the investigation continues.
Williams and Sammons are in the Summit County Jail, awaiting action by a Summit County grand jury.

TYPICAL INNER CITY CROOKS LOSERS
White trash, yeah, there's white trash....but then there is black trash.
Beacon you are not reporting the Akron Crime like you did before. Are you in bed with the mayor and Sommedrville? Trying to make Akron sound like a warm and cuddly city?
"Police allege that Sammons made the Oct. 31 trip to Fred Martin Motors during business hours to take the keys from the ignitions of the vehicles that were later stolen."
The cars were out on the lot with the keys in the ignition. Now there's a good, common sense policy for you.
Hmmm.. Why is it I am citied if I leave my keys in my car and its stolen?? I am sure Fred Martin (Owned by Mr Huff) is going to be cited for some sort of complicity, as they just left they keys out for anyone to grab... and they did! Arent they??
Yo Mr Huff:: They have these things called "key boxes" that lock the keys in them and are secured in the car door window. Many dealerships use them successfully. you put the keys in them in the am... remove them at close... No one can just walk onto your lot and reach in and take them.
Stupid is as stupid does, Sir!.... F. Gump
Anyone else notice how the story on John Kerry's daughter's DUI has no comments available? I bet ya, had it been G. Bush or S. Palins daughter, this wtory would have been the main front page story on this website, and the bashing section would be open and alive.
Way to go Beacon... Censoring us on a subject before we have the opportunity to speak.
