A former Western Reserve Academy math teacher has been indicted on charges of communicating sexual acts on the Internet with a 12-year-old girl, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office reported Tuesday.
Howard Kaplan, 57, was caught in a sting by the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of Cuyahoga County, authorities said.
Kaplan began chatting with a person whom he believed to be a 12-year-old on May 10 and continued through Aug. 21, prosecutor Bill Mason said.
He was arrested on Aug. 23, when search warrants were executed on his home and office, both of which are on the Hudson academy campus. He has since been released by the school.
Kaplan was indicted on nine counts of importuning and one count of possession of criminal tools.
The investigation ''stopped this predator from potentially harming any of our children,'' Mason said. ''Kaplan's actions should not tarnish this school's excellent reputation.''
Kaplan is in the Cuyahoga County jail.
