HUDSON: About 500 hearty runners took to the streets of Hudson early Tuesday to participate in the Frosty 5-Mile Road Race and the Mistletoe Mile Fun Run.

Participants were encouraged to bring a canned food item to benefit the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.

Runners, who woke up to temperatures of about 20 degrees, also were asked to race wearing an ugly Christmas sweater for a chance to win a $50 gift card from Vertical Runner, one of the races’ six sponsors.

A count from race officials indicated that about 50 people participated in the fun run and about 450 in the 5-mile race.

The 5-mile course began at First and Main on Clinton Street and continued through Owen Brown Street, Brentwood Drive, Atterbury Boulevard, Lake Forest Drive and Chadbourne Drive before returning.
