CINCINNATI: Movie and Broadway star Viola Davis will be keynote speaker for a YWCA of Greater Cincinnati event.
The May 14 luncheon honors career women of achievement. The 35th anniversary luncheon celebrates women from the Cincinnati region for career success, leadership and status as role models.
Two educational scholarships will be awarded, including one designated for an African-American high school senior.
Proceeds from the luncheon support YWCA community programs including domestic violence shelters, job training, youth services and literacy education. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend.
Davis is a South Carolina native who grew up in Rhode Island. Among her many notable roles was in the 2011 movie “The Help,” about racial divides between women in a 1960s Southern town. She has also appeared in number of TV shows.
