Beacon Journal staff report
Akron police are investigating the death of a 52-year-old Akron woman who was found Friday night behind a flooring business just south of downtown.
The woman’s body was discovered about 10:30 p.m. lying on the loading dock in the rear of F. Cunningham and Sons Carpet and Flooring, 207 E. South St., said police Lt. Rick Edwards.
Edwards said the name of the victim would not be released until police can track down and notify her next of kin.
According to the Summit County Medical Examiner, the woman suffered severe head trauma. An autopsy was conducted Saturday, but no ruling on a cause of death had been made.
Police are investigating the death as a homicide and have no suspects at this point, Edwards said.
Police received a call from a man reporting a woman was at the location bleeding from the head. The man wasn’t at the scene when they arrived, Edwards said.
The location where the victim was found is across the street from the county jail and there is a security camera on the corner, but it was not functioning. Police are hoping to obtain security camera footage from nearby businesses that could indicate if the woman was in the area with anyone prior to her death, Edwards said.
Anyone with information about the death is urged to call the city police detective bureau at 330-375-2490.
