14-year-old arrested in mugging of landlord

Beacon Journal staff writer

A 14-year-old Akron boy is accused of robbing a woman as she exited her car Wednesday.

The boy was being held in the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center on robbery charges.

Akron police say a 63-year-old Sharon Center Township woman had parked her car in the 200 block of Wildwood Avenue and was about to visit her rental property when she was confronted by the boy about 6 p.m.

The teen grabbed her purse and ran away as the woman fell to the ground.

Akron officers called to the neighborhood found the teen walking near West Exchange Street. They recovered the woman’s purse, cash and other items.
