FREMONT, OHIO: A sheriff in Northwest Ohio has fired two jailers and says a third has resigned following a disciplinary hearing that determined multiple jail policies were violated regarding the treatment of a female inmate.
The Sandusky Register reports Wednesday that Sheriff Kyle Overmyer fired a jail supervisor and a jailer Tuesday on allegations they engaged in sexual misconduct and failed to follow procedure for mentally ill inmates.
The supervisor and jailer and another jailer are accused of leaving the woman naked in a county jail cell for several hours on Jan. 10, with at least one of the men watching her.
The supervisor is accused of denying a female officer’s request to provide the inmate a gown.
The county’s director of job and family services conducted the hearing.
