NORTH CANTON: Stark County sheriff’s deputies are investigating an incident Thursday morning in which a man attempted to lure an elementary school student into his SUV.

North Canton Superintendent Michael Hartenstein told parents in a districtwide email that an abduction was attempted near a bus stop serving Greentown school in Lake Township.

“A white male in a black SUV tried to lure a female student into the SUV with an offer of candy. This individual actually exited the vehicle and tried to approach this young person,” Hartenstein wrote. “The young person ran and reported the incident immediately. She was shaken but unharmed.”

Hartenstein said the sheriff’s office was called immediately to investigate.

The sheriff’s office said incident occurred about 8:20 a.m. in the 9000 block of Cleveland Avenue Northwest. The suspect is 16 to 20 years old and his SUV was a small model with tinted windows and a roof rack.

Anyone with information is asked to call 330-430-3800.
