About two dozen people use Red Cross shelter in Akron following storm

Beacon Journal staff report

The American Red Cross of Summit and Portage Counties opened a shelter Wednesday evening at its facility at 501 W. Market St., Akron, to help people displaced by the widespread flooding that followed heavy rain.

Approximately two dozen individuals — mostly from the Barberton area — were admitted late Wednesday with more expected today.

Emergency housing and food will be provided as needed, the Red Cross said in a written news release.

The shelter will remain open until all individuals have found alternative accommodations or can return to their homes.
