A series of traffic crashes — including one involving an Akron police cruiser — has forced authorities to close a section of Interstate 77.
Akron police were on the scene of a traffic crash on the busy interstate around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night when a truck ran into a parked police cruiser.
The officers, who were out of the car assisting motorists, were not hurt. The truck’s driver reportedly suffered a severe cut to his head.
Authorities say one or two additional crashes appear to have occurred after the truck hit the police car.
Police have closed all northbound lanes of the interstate at the East Wilbeth Road exit ramp while rescue crews assist the injured and investigators sort out the multiple crashes.
