The Akron area is under a winter storm warning and could get as much as a foot of snow today before it ends, the National Weather Service is forecasting.

Akron likely will see snow start to fall this morning, with accumulation starting after noon with widespread blowing. The area will get between 5 and 9 inches of snow by nightfall and an additional 1 to 3 inches at night.

The high for today will be 31 degrees, falling to a low of 25 at night, the National Weather Service said.

There is a chance of snow showers before 11 a.m. Thursday. Friday is expected to be partly sunny and then mostly cloudy at night. There is a chance of snow during the day Saturday and snow likely Saturday night.
