An Akron man was arrested Tuesday, accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, biting her on the forehead and firing a gunshot as she tried to leave his home.
Dazaun Coppinger, 18, was being held in the Summit County Jail on charges of felonious assault, domestic violence, carrying a concealed weapon, tampering with evidence and possessing a firearm with an altered serial number.
His girlfriend, 17 years old and six months pregnant, suffered non-life threatening injuries following the incident inside Coppinger’s Carlysle Street home Tuesday night just before 11.
According to police Lt. Rick Edwards, the girl’s father called 911 to report the attack after she called him while running away from the North Akron home.
She told police she Coppinger struck her a number of times and bit her forehead during an attack inside the home. When she grabbed a kitchen knife to defend herself, Coppinger picked up a .45-caliber High Point pistol, Edwards said.
As the girl was fleeing, police say Coppinger fired a single shot. The girl was not struck.
