Akron man accused of killing kitten surrenders to police

Beacon Journal staff report

An Akron man wanted on charges of domestic violence and cruelty to animals has surrendered to police.

Patrick Palmer, 28, is being held in the Summit County Jail. He is set to be arraigned Wednesday in Akron Municipal Court.

Palmer is accused of assaulting his girlfriend on Rexford Street by kicking, choking and shoving her into a van parked outside their home, police said.

During the assault, police say Palmer picked up a kitten, broke its neck and tossed the dead animal at the woman. Several children witnessed the assault, police said.

Palmer is charged with felony domestic violence because of a prior conviction on the same offense in 2008.

The cruelty to animal charge is a misdemeanor.
