Akron man awakened, shot in head as teen son is beaten

Beacon Journal staff report

An Akron man was shot in the head and his teen son was assaulted Monday by an intruder at their Douglas Street home.

The man, 50, suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. He was being treated at Akron General Medical Center. His son, 15, was treated by paramedics called to the home.

Police said the father was awakened about 1 a.m. by a stranger who entered through a side door. The intruder assaulted the father and son and then fled. Police are unsure of a potential motive for the break-in and shooting.

The suspect is described as black, 18 to 25 years old, wearing a gray face-mask and a black hooded sweatshirt or jacket with red on the elbows.
