Akron man pleads guilty to child sex charges

Beacon Journal staff report

An Akron man was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to charges that he tried to arrange a sexual encounter with a child.

Jeffrey Richardson, 35, pleaded guilty to charges of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and attempted conspiracy to kidnapping. He was sentenced in Summit County Common Pleas Court by Judge Alison McCarty.

According to prosecutors, Richardson posted an ad on the Internet classified ad site Craigslist that sought to exploit children sexually.

The ad was tracked by the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Agents set up a sting in which Richardson began communicating with someone claiming to be the father of a 12-year-old girl.

During the next several weeks, prosecutors say, Richardson emailed photos of young children to another undercover agent and offered access to a child in exchange for access to another person’s relatives.
