Akron man robbed, shot; sawed-off shotgun found in potential suspect’s pants

Beacon Journal staff report

Akron police are looking for a pair of robbers who stole $61 from a man then shot him in the foot.

Authorities say a 28-year-old Akron man reported that he was robbed then shot in the foot at about 8 p.m. Friday at the intersection of West Cuyahoga Falls and Shelby avenues.

The victim was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital for treatment.

While investigating the robbery, officers stopped a potential suspect at North Main Street and East Tallmadge Avenue.

When approached, the man told officers that he had a loaded, sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun hidden in his pants.

Officers determined that Matias R. Martin, 22, of Cleveland, was not a part of the robbery. He was still charged with having a weapon under disability, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of an unlawful or dangerous ordnance.
