Akron man sentenced to five years in prison for 6th DUI

Beacon Journal staff report

An Akron man was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison after being convicted on his sixth drunken driving offense.

Samuel D. Hoffmeyer, 41, of West Crosier Street, also lost his driving privileges for life.

A Summit County jury last month convicted Hoffmeyer after a trial before Judge Tammy O’Brien.

Prosecutors say Hoffmeyer crashed his truck into a guardrail at the Sheetz gas station on West Waterloo Road last Sept. 25. Akron police officers in the area saw Hoffmeyer trying to flee the area on foot and arrested him.
