Beacon Journal staff report
Akron police said Monday they arrested a man on robbery charges, but not before he tried to pull off a third heist.
Timothy L. McDonald, 26, was arrested inside the Dry People’s Club on Brittain Road, where police said he was hiding in the bathroom about 8:30 Friday night. A fake gun was found concealed inside a toilet tank, according to a report.
Police said McDonald was developed as a suspect in the robberies of two motorists that happened Thursday and Friday.
As officers were arresting McDonald, they learned of a third robbery that had taken place earlier Friday on Shawnee Path.
Police said McDonald used a similar ploy: claiming a medical emergency and asking a motorist for ride.
In the most recent case, police said McDonald pulled out a handgun while being driven to a hospital and attempted to rob the driver.
Police said the driver fought with McDonald for control of the gun, and McDonald eventually jumped out of the car and ran. The driver identified McDonald, who then confessed to the third robbery.
