Akron police followed footprints in the snow and arrested a suspect in connection with the robbery of a business owner Wednesday.

Frederick C. West, 48, is being held in the Summit County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, obstruction and drug possession.

Police say West confronted the owner of Gehm and Sons, 802 S. Arlington St., about 4:30 p.m. and robbed the man at knifepoint.

The owner, 45, said he saw the suspect near his truck and went to confront him. As he did, the robber pulled out a knife and threatened him. The owner called police as the robber fled with a briefcase, a report said.

Officers arrived and followed footprints in the snow. They said they found West in the 1000 block of Forbes Avenue, about a block away from the store.

The owner’s briefcase was found across the street in the 900 block of Eva Avenue.
