Akron police use Taser to subdue Springfield kidnapping suspect

Beacon Journal staff report

A Springfield Township man accused of abducting two women from an East Akron home was arrested early Tuesday morning.

Charles Brown, 26, is being held in the Summit County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, illegal weapon possession, aggravated menacing, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Police say Brown went to a home in the 2100 block of East Market Street about 2:30 a.m. and ordered the women, ages 21 and 25, from the house. Brown dated one of the women, police said.

Armed with a shotgun, Brown threatened to shoot the women. He then took their cellphones and ordered the women into a car.

An officer arrived to confront Brown, who dropped his weapon, but refused other commands. After a brief struggle with the officer, Brown was struck by the officer’s Taser weapon and subdued, police said.

Police say Brown was intoxicated during the incident. He has a prior felony domestic violence conviction, which bars him from carrying a firearm.
