The city of Akron is still waiting to see if the payment it receives from the IRS to help defray interest costs on its bonds will be delayed by the shutdown.
Akron was approved for Build America Bonds and Qualified Construction bonds through the federal stimulus program. The IRS wires the city payments twice a year before the interest payments are due.
The city is expecting a payment of $850,000 on Dec. 1.
“It is our hope that the situation will be resolved and the city will receive the subsidy,” said Finance Director Diane Miller-Dawson. “If the shutdown is not resolved, the city will need to pay.”
