Akron woman, 73, finds stranger in home, recycling can stolen

Beacon Journal staff report

A 73-year-old Akron woman told police she came home to find a man had broken into her home and taken a silverware set along with her city-supplied recycling can.

The woman arrived at her Clark Street home about 6 p.m. Sunday and found a side door open and the unknown man inside. The stranger told the woman he found the door was open and he was only there to meet someone.

The man then fled with a bag containing a drawer’s worth of silverware and her city of Akron recycling container, which was in the driveway.

Police said it appears the side door was forced open. No suspect has been identified.
