Akron police responding to a bank robbery on South Arlington Street early Monday apprehended two suspects and recovered money taken during the heist.
Deon L. Davis, 26, of Akron, was arrested by officers within an hour of the robbery that took place about 9 a.m. inside the FirstMerit branch at 1411 S. Arlington St.
An accomplice, Bernard Calbert, 27, also was arrested in the southeast Akron neighborhood around the bank. Each man is charged with aggravated robbery.
Police Lt. Rick Edwards said Davis went inside the branch armed with a handgun and demanded money from a teller. With a money bag in hand, he then fled outside, jumped a fence and ran to a car Calbert was driving.
Officers responding spotted the car. While being pursued, Davis jumped out of the car and ran, police said. He and Calbert eventually were caught, along with the gun and money.
The men are being held in the Summit County Jail pending an appearance in Akron Municipal Court.
