Armed robbery prompts lockdown at Akron elementary school

Beacon Journal staff report

An Akron woman was robbed in her driveway Thursday morning prompting a brief lockdown at an Akron elementary school.

Authorities say around 11 a.m. Thursday a woman pulled into her driveway in the 600 block of Garry Road.

The victim said she was approached by a man, who appeared to have a gun, from the back of the house.

The robber asked for the woman’s cash and the diamond ring on her finger. The woman threw the ring and about $400 on the ground and ran into her home.

The robber fled, prompting police to place the Barber Community Learning Center on lockdown while they searched the area.

Officers recovered the woman’s ring.

The robber remains at large.
