Arraignment hearings delayed for Barberton triple murder suspects

Beacon Journal staff report

AKRON: Two Akron brothers potentially facing death sentences for their alleged roles in the New Year’s Eve shooting deaths of a Barberton father and two teens will be arraigned next Tuesday.

Eric Donta Hendon, 31, and his brother, Michael Deon Hendon, 22, will be arraigned during separate hearings before Summit County Common Pleas Judge Amy Corrigall Jones.

The brothers were originally to be arraigned Wednesday. No explanation was given for the change.

The brothers are accused of forcing their way inside the Barberton home of John Kohler on Dec. 31 and shooting him, his two teenage children and his girlfriend.

Ashley Carpenter, 18, and her brother, David, died of gunshot wounds to the head. John Kohler, 42, was also shot in the head and died Jan. 3. His girlfriend, Ronda Blankenship, 38, suffered a gunshot wound to the eye, but survived.
