Authorities are investigating the death of a 2-month-old infant found dead Saturday inside a Coventry Township home.
Summit County sheriff’s detectives and the county medical examiner’s office are working jointly to determine how the infant died and whether criminal charges will be brought against anyone who was caring for the child around the time of death.
The infant’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office where an autopsy was to be performed.
The child’s identity and family were not immediately released.
The autopsy examination is expected to reveal if the newborn may have been inadvertently suffocated while sleeping in bed with an adult family member.
The infant’s family called 911 on Saturday morning around 8 a.m. from a home on Ace Drive.
When authorities arrived the baby was found unresponsive. It was not immediately clear how long the infant may have been dead.
The residence is located near the West Reservoir and south of State Mill Road.
Sheriff’s Inspector Bill Holland said he could not provide any additional details of the death.
