CINCINNATI: Federal authorities say a Cincinnati man has pleaded guilty to single counts of conspiracy to submit false claims for federal income tax refunds with the Internal Revenue Service and theft of government property.
The U.S. attorney for Ohio’s southern district says 35-year-old Jimmy Hill could be sentenced to up to 10 years and fined $250,000 or twice Hill’s gain or the loss to victims.
Hill’s plea was announced Tuesday. His attorney didn’t immediately return a call.
Court documents say that between January 2011 and September 2012 Hill and five others participated in a scheme to obtain false claims for income tax refunds from the IRS by electronically filing false 2010 and 2011 returns.
Authorities say the returns claimed more than $654,500 in refunds they knew they weren’t entitled to.
