Beacon Journal staff report
The snow has returned with a vengeance.
The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement this evening warning that initial bands of snow are moving through the Akron area.
The first round of wicked winter weather that is expected to last through Tuesday morning will come in the form of heavy snow - with one to two inches of snow predicted to fall over a short span of time.
The snow is expected to switch over to blend of snow, freezing rain and sleet overnight. Anywhere from three to six inches of snow are predicted to fall by Tuesday morning.
Akron area emergency dispatchers report a flurry of minor crashes ranging from one vehicle hitting a stone wall while trying to navigate into a driveway to a hit and run where the vehicle that was hit by another motorist fled the scene.
The area is under a winter weather advisory until 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Once the snow stops falling, the next weather threat will be flooding concerns as temperatures are headed above freezing through the end of the week.
