The Akron Board of Education unanimously re-elected President Jason Haas, Vice President Lisa Mansfield and a local face to the district’s administrative building during Monday’s meeting.
This will be Haas’ second term as president and third on the board. Mansfield is serving in her second term.
The board also unanimously welcomed Mark Williamson as the district’s communications manager.
Williamson, 55, graduated from Firestone High School in 1975.
As he was speaking to the board on Monday, it was the first time in one year that he had addressed a crowd after resigning from the mayor’s office last January.
“A year ago today, which is really ironic,” he said.
Williamson began his career at WAKC TV in Akron as a reporter and on-air talent. He later worked as the news director and anchor at Channel 23. He had worked for the mayor for 15 years before resigning last year.
A former journalist, Williamson said he looks forward to working with the media in a timely and transparent fashion while being mindful of students’ privacy.
Williamson’s employment begins Jan. 30 at an annual salary of $80,185.
