Businessman leaves $14 million to Cleveland Clinic

Associated Press

CLEVELAND: A businessman who died last year at age 87 has left more than $14 million in his will to the Cleveland Clinic for cardiovascular research.

The bequest announced Thursday was left to the Clinic by Gus Karos, who worked in the restaurant business.

The bequest will be used to support a registry database started in the 1960s for cardiovascular research.

Along with earlier gifts Karos has donated more than $26 million to the research hospital.

Karos was born in Joliet, Ill., moved to Cleveland in 1960 and retired in 2000.
