Canton girl approached by stranger in car

Beacon Journal staff report

Canton police are looking for a man who may have been trying to lure a girl into his vehicle while she was waiting for a school bus early Thursday.

The 13-year-old girl was never touched by the man, who she encountered about 9 a.m. Thursday while near 7th and Smith avenues Southwest.

According to a press release from Canton police, the man, who appeared to be middle aged, asked the girl to come into his tan or gray colored, four-door car. He also asked her to help him look for his lost dog.

The girl ignored the man’s advances and he eventually drove away.

Police say the man is bi-racial and had silver and dark hair combed back. He had noticeable dark circles around his eyes and mumbled as he spoke, possibly because of missing teeth.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call Canton police detectives at 330-489-3144. Anonymous tips may be sent to Tip411. To register, visit www.cantonohio.gov/police.
