Car accident kills woman in Jackson Township

Beacon Journal staff report

JACKSON TWP.: A woman was killed Friday in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Whipple Avenue and Holiday Street near Belden Village Mall, police said.

Police Sgt. Jason Collins said the crash, involving four vehicles, was reported at 4:51 p.m.

The fatality involved the driver of a Toyota Avalon heading east on Holiday, preparing to cross Whipple onto 47th Street, when it was hit by a female driver of a Ford Edge heading south in the outside lane of Whipple, Collins said.

The driver of the Edge ran a red light, striking the Avalon on the driver’s side, Collins said. The woman was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Canton, where she was pronounced dead.

After the collision, the Edge spun around and hit a Dodge Caravan, which in turn also struck the Avalon. A fourth vehicle, a Ford Ranger, was hit as the Edge rolled backward.

The driver of the Edge and a passenger were taken to Aultman Hospital in Canton.

Collins said the crash was still under investigation Friday night and no names would be immediately available.

Possible charges will be determined later, he said.
