Beacon Journal staff report

A brief police pursuit of a stolen car ended Wednesday morning in a stone wall on Diagonal Road near Copley Road in West Akron.

The driver, Lee Porter, 43, of Akron, was treated at a local hospital. Authorities said he will be jailed on charges of receiving stolen property, failure to comply with police, marijuana possession and assorted traffic charges.

Police also said that Porter had pending warrants on theft charges.

Police were called about 11:40 a.m. to Copley Road and Orlando Avenue on a report of a stolen car. Once a cruiser tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away. Police said they called off the chase in less than a minute because of safety concerns.

A short time later, they found the 2001 Buick LeSabre crashed at 585 Diagonal Road, where the driver lost control on a curve, struck a curb, hit a stone wall and then a tree.
