Cause of Akron girl’s death pending toxicology results

Beacon Journal staff report

Investigators are awaiting toxicology results to determine the cause of death of an 11-year-old Akron girl found dead in the bedroom of her Eva Avenue bedroom Christmas morning.

Barbarann Hayes had no life-threatening trauma or injuries, according to an investigator with the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The toxicology results might take 8 to 12 weeks, though investigators are hoping they will be finished sooner.

Barbarann was found dead before noon Tuesday.

Police initially suspected a medication overdose but said the cause will have to wait until the autopsy is complete, which requires toxicology results.
