Browns defensive end Marcus Benard is being charged with driving under a suspended license and reckless operation, Brooklyn Police Sgt. Scott Mielke said this morning. A court date will be made available when a police report is finalized this afternoon.
Benard lost control of his motorcycle and hit a guardrail Monday afternoon while traveling north on Interstate 71 near West 65th Street in Brooklyn, Mielke said. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which took place about two hours after the Browns wrapped up practice at their training facility in Berea.
Benard, 26, suffered a broken hand in the accident, a Browns spokesman said. Benard was in stable condition Monday night at the Cleveland Clinic, the spokesman said.
