Legislation has finished winding its way through Congress to rename a Tallmadge branch post office for a fallen local Marine.
The post office will be known as “Lance Corporal Daniel Nathan Deyarmin Jr. Post Office Building” in memory of the Tallmadge native who died Aug. 1, 2005 while serving in Iraq.
U.S. Rep. Tim Niles, D-Niles, introduced the legislation, with a companion bill sponsored by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown. The Senate approved the bill Wednesday night, sending it to President Barack Obama for his expected signature.
“It is important that our communities find a way to honor the lives of their fallen heroes,” Ryan said in a news release, adding that the post office renaming is a “fitting reminder” of Deyarmin’s sacrifice.
After Obama signs the legislation, a renaming ceremony will be held at the post office. Deyarmin’s friends and family will be invited.
