Couple fights mugger in Kenmore; woman shot

Beacon Journal staff report

An Akron woman was shot in the leg while her companion fought off a would-be mugger in a Kenmore alley early Sunday, police said.

The woman, 19, was treated at Summa Barberton Hospital.

She and her friend, 22, told police they were walking to a Kenmore Boulevard gas station just after midnight when a man approached them in an alley and said, “Give me what you got.”

The couple resisted, and the man began wrestling with the robber. At some point, the robber’s gun fired, striking the woman’s leg, police said.

The robber, who has not been identified, then fled while the couple walked back home before driving to the hospital.

The robber is described as a black male, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He wore black clothing.
