Coventry man charged with scalding child

Beacon Journal staff report

A Coventry Township man is accused of causing severe burns to a toddler by pouring hot water on the child.

Dusty Gauder, 27, has been chagred with felonious assault and child endangering following an incident police said occurred Friday inside his Lakeway Drive home.

The 18-month-old boy is being treated at Akron Children’s Hospital. A Summit County Sheriff’s Office report shows the boy sustained first- and second-degree burns after having a pan of hot water poured on his back.

Gauder was arrested Friday and remains in the Summit County Jail. His case is pending in Barberton Municipal Court.
