Crash sends two trucks off Akron interstate

Beacon Journal staff report

A truck towing another rig went off the side of Interstate 76 Thursday afternoon sending both of the vehicles off the west side of the Kenmore Leg and into a field.

Crews worked for several hours to remove the trucks that ended up overturned below the westbound lanes of the interstate around 4 p.m.

Dave Barle, an employee at Mobility Works on West Wilbeth Road, said emergency crews had to use the company’s property to gain access to the crash site near state Route 224.

Barle said it was a miracle the driver was not seriously hurt in the mishap that left pieces of the trucks scattered over a wide area.

Akron police did not release any details of the crash Thursday night.

The crash prompted the Ohio Department of Transportation to issue a traffic alert during Thursday’s rush hour advising motorists to avoid the area.
