Deliberations continue in Ohio slave labor trial

Associated Press

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO: Jurors will resume deliberations for a second day in the trial of two people accused of enslaving a mentally disabled woman for two years with her child in northern Ohio.

The jurors went home Thursday about 90 minutes after getting the case in a Youngstown federal court.

Prosecutors say the two defendants terrorized the woman to the point of silence.

They say the man and his girlfriend raided the accuser’s bank account while forcing her and her daughter to live in a locked basement in the town of Ashland.

One defense attorney says investigators tried to sensationalize the case and that two others who already pleaded guilty were the ringleaders. Another attorney denied that the pair stole from woman.
