Family escapes injury in West Akron house fire; smoke detectors credited

A West Akron family escaped injury when a fire broke out in their North Portage Path home early Friday.

According to WEWS in Cleveland, the family was awakened by smoke detectors when the fire started just before 2:30 a.m. in the home in the 100 block of North Portage Path. Firefighters on the scene said two adults and two children in the home were able to gather their pets and escape the burning home, the report said.

The home suffered heavy damage to the second and third floors.

The family was outside when firefighters arrived at 2:47 a.m., according to an Akron Fire Department incident report. There were no injuries reported.

There was no amount listed for damages in the report. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
