Beacon Journal staff report
Akron-based FirstEnergy is reporting that about 35,000 customers in Ashtabula County are without power.
A problem occurred with a transmission circuit — which carries high-voltage energy and serves a greater number of customers — at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday.
“We’ve got folks dispatched and working on it,” FirstEnergy spokesman Dave Dillon said.
Workers were still trying to determine the cause of the problem, he said.
There also are scattered outages elsewhere in Northeast Ohio, but Dillon said those are likely unrelated to the transmission circuit.
In Greater Akron, some customers south of downtown are without power. A small number of customers in the Portage Lakes area and around Mogadore have had their power restored.
The total number of FirstEnergy customers in the dark in Northeast Ohio is 52,379.
Northeast Ohio is under a heat advisory today with temperatures in the 90s and high humidity. The advisory is set to expire at 8 p.m.
