After 15 hours of fist pumping, James Peterson felt the super glue holding his right hand closed begin to loosen.

That did not stop him from reaching his goal: 16 continuous hours in an effort to place his name in the Guinness World Records.

Fist pumping to the song Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, Peterson stopped just after 3 a.m. Saturday at Manny’s Pub on Brown Street near the University of Akron.

Peterson, an unemployed electrician from Green and self-proclaimed “veteran fist pumper,” said he did not suffer any serious pain from the 16-hour effort, but “I did get a nasty sunburn on my arm.”

Zinnihunt Productions co-owners Clay Hunt and Greg Zinni, along with Matt Rohrbach, captured the 16 hours using two cameras. Their footage will help ensure accurate documentation.

They captured Peterson fist pumping on center stage at Lock 3, in front of the Akron Aeros’ fireworks display on Friday night and interacting with various people, including members of the Candy Apples Dance Center, a group featured on Lifetime Television’s Dance Moms.

Peterson, 34, said ZinniHunt Productions will send the footage to Guinness this week.

“It should take a few days; we have 16 hours of footage to upload,” Hunt said.
