Junior Brian Groves rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another, and the visiting Bulldogs (2-0) scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win over the Rough Riders (1-1).
The Bulldogs led 15-7 after the third quarter and turned the game into a rout after Groves rushed for two touchdowns and sophomore Jacob Madgar recovered a fumble in the end zone.
Groves threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to senior Zaire Lewis in the second quarter, and Lewis also caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from junior Andrew Wargo. Wargo threw for 142 yards and Groves finished with 82 yards rushing. Senior Dustin Monaco threw two touchdown passes to lead the Rough Riders.
Garfield 10, Cuyahoga Falls 7
Junior Benson Bonyo kicked an 18-yard field goal in overtime to lead the visiting Golden Rams (1-1) over the Black Tigers (1-1).
The Golden Rams led 7-0 at halftime after senior Jarred Bell’s 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The Black Tigers tied the score in the third quarter on a 12-yard touchdown pass from senior Mike Kaser to senior Ryan Horrigan. The Golden Rams scored on their first possession in overtime and won after the Black Tigers fumbled on the second play of their possession.
Bell finished with 80 yards rushing, and junior Darrion Powers rushed for 79 yards for the Golden Rams.
Copley 14, Firestone 0
Senior Quincy Iverson had a 1-yard touchdown run, and senior Will Thomas had a 64-yard punt return for a touchdown to lead the host Indians (2-0) over the Falcons (0-2).
Iverson rushed for 62 yards, and Thomas had three catches for 49 yards to lead the Indians. The Indians’ defense held the Falcons to minus-19 yards rushing, 61 yards passing and eight first downs.
CVCA 32, Norwayne 28
Senior Jake Butler scored on a 4-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-2 with 3:25 left in the game to give the host Royals (1-1) the win over the Bobcats (1-1).
The Royals trailed 21-19 at halftime when Butler caught a 54-yard pass from junior Brandon Beausoleil in the third quarter and rushed for the game-winner late in the fourth to give the Royals their first win of the season.
Beausoleil threw for 169 yards and three touchdowns for the Royals, and senior Joe Dreher threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns, three to senior Kaleb Harris, to lead the Bobcats.
Norton 38, Kenmore 20
Senior Jake Fling rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns and also caught a touchdown pass, and the Panthers (1-1) defeated the Cardinals (0-2).
Senior Brandon Cuda rushed for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Fling and junior Terez Smith rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cardinals.
Hudson 20, Lake 7
Junior Mitchell Guadagni threw for 141 yards and two touchdowns to lead the host Explorers (2-0) over the Blue Streaks (1-1).
Guadagni threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to junior Reid Robinson and a 32-yard pass to junior Colton Whited and senior Ben Hart rushed for a touchdown for the Explorers.
Barberton 23, Springfield 14
The visiting Magics trailed 14-10 at halftime, but senior John Cominsky and sophomore Brandon McCall each rushed for a touchdown in the third quarter to defeat the Spartans.
Cominsky had a 30-yard touchdown run, and McCall had a 3-yard touchdown run for the Magics (1-1). Senior Corey Fox returned a fumble 43 yards for a touchdown, and senior Chad Baker threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to senior Jake Kitchen and had a 53-yard touchdown run to lead the Spartans (0-2).
Louisville 14, North Canton Hoover 13
Junior Connor Zwick rushed for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter as the host Leopards (2-0) scored 14 in that quarter to defeat the Vikings (0-2).
The Vikings scored with 23 seconds left but missed the game-tying extra point after a 20-play, 85-yard drive in which they converted four first downs. Zwick threw for 124 yards and Vikings quarterback Luke Grandjean went 15-for-30 with 158 yards and a touchdown.
Coventry 14, East 7
Jaret Skaggs threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Devein Elekes in the fourth quarter to give the host Comets (1-1) the win over the Dragons (0-2). Maurice Thomas threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Treyaun Bell to give the Dragons a 7-0 lead at halftime. The Comets tied the score on Zach Lake’s 13-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Nordonia 42, Twinsburg 7
David Murray threw for 165 yards and three touchdowns, and Jordan Nobles rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns to lead the host Knights (2-0) over the Tigers (0-2). Murray threw touchdown passes to Isaiah Lajoie, Alex Alders and Ty Hampton and Mike Peelman threw for 128 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers.
Mogadore 49, Smithville 17
Junior Brandon Berry rushed for two touchdowns and caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from senior Anthony Ricci, and the visiting Wildcats (2-0) defeated the Smithies (0-2). Senior Austin Kerr, sophomore Luke Cramer and senior Josh Tompkins each rushed for a touchdown for the Wildcats.
Wadsworth 14, Wooster 13
Junior Shane Mast had a 4-yard touchdown run with 11:54 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the host Grizzlies (2-0) the lead and the win over the Generals (0-2). Senior Martice Jackson rushed for 208 yards and a touchdown for the Grizzlies.
Aurora 41, Ravenna 14
Senior George Bollas rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another to lead the host Greenmen (2-0) over the Ravens (0-2).
Junior Joe Dinardo rushed for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass for the Greenmen.
Orrville 22, Triway 17
Junior Keontae Owens rushed for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to give the visiting Red Riders (2-0) the win over the Titans (0-2). The Red Riders trailed 14-7 in the third quarter but rallied behind Owens’ two touchdowns. Junior Parker Carmichael threw two touchdown passes for the Titans.
Austintown Fitch 27, Archbishop Hoban 12
Todd Sibley rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns for the visiting Knights (0-2).
