A Jackson Township woman is accused of setting fire Thursday to an apartment complex where she lives with seven others.

Deborah L. Rearick is charged in connection with the fire at 2830 Thackeray Ave. NW. No one was injured.

On Friday, police said they had charged Rearick with aggravated arson, vandalism, felonious assault and resisting arrest.

Police said Rearick tossed “several burning paper towels at a caregiver attempting to cause physical harm.” Firefighters evacuated the building and extinguished the fire.

Police said Rearick was found in the burning apartment lying on the kitchen floor. She was taken for treatment at a local hospital and later placed under arrest.

She is accused of resisting arrest and assaulting an officer by kicking him. She also damaged a police cruiser by kicking the door, police said.
