A Kent State University student pleaded not guilty on Monday after police said he Tweeted a threat of a school shooting targeting the university.
Sophomore William Koberna, 19, was released from the Portage County Jail after a municipal judge set a $50,000 bond in Ravenna, the Associated Press reports.
Court records indicate that Koberna’s family posted $5,000, or 10 percent of the bond issued, for his release. He is ordered to wear a GPS tracking device and avoid contact with KSU President Lester Lefton, the alleged victim of the threats.
Police arrested Koberna at his parents’ home in Brunswick on Sunday night. He was charged with inducing panic and aggravated menacing.
Kent State officials, who notified police, noticed the alleged Tweet last week. The Tweet read, “I’m shooting up your school ASAP.”
The Tweet has since been taken down.
“Any threat to our campus community is taken seriously and immediately investigated,” Lefton told the Beacon Journal on Sunday.
“Our students, employees, and all those who come to campus should know that their safety is our top priority.”
