Beacon Journal staff report
The National Weather Service has issued a lake-effect snow advisory Thursday morning for Portage County.
The advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. and also covers Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Trumbull counties.
Lake-effect snow was heavy at times overnight in the affected areas and will continue through the morning commute, the service said. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected for a storm total of 3 to 6 inches. The precipitation is expected to change over to rain as the day progresses.
The heavy snow could damage trees and power lines and drivers are advised to be cautious as snow-covered roads could be dangerous.
