CINCINNATI: A 13-year-old Southwest Ohio boy seriously hurt by a lightning strike at an Indiana summer camp in June is breathing on his own but hasn’t been able to speak or move without help.
Ethan Kadish’s parents and his doctors at a Cincinnati hospital say the jolt stopped his heart, leading to brain damage. His recovery is moving slowly, and doctors say they’re not sure about his prognosis or how long he’ll need care.
The Loveland teen, a 9-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy were injured June 29 at Goldman Union Camp Institute in suburban Indianapolis. Kadish was teaching other children a Frisbee game when lightning struck on what had been a mostly sunny day.
The other injured children were hurt less severely. They were treated at a hospital and released.
