CUYAHOGA FALLS

Derby talk
CUYAHOGA FALLS: Jeff Iula will speak at the Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society’s meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cuyahoga Falls Library.

Iula, who grew up around the Soap Box Derby, will speak about his new book, How I saw It: My Photographic Memory of the Soap Box Derby. Aided by Writer Bill Ignizio, Iula has delved into his collection of Derby memorabilia to identify the most compelling images of cars and contestants, programs and tickets, celebrities and ceremonies. Iula is also a Falls councilman.

The library is at 2015 Third St.

STOW
School PAC cited

STOW: The Ohio Elections Commission has found a Stow political action committee in violation of elections laws for two statements made during the school levy campaign in the fall of 2010.

The Stow Citizens for Responsible Government admitted a violation in its statement that “Superintendent Russell Jones’ tenure with the district did not contribute in any way to the District’s first ever Excellent with Distinction Rating.”

Philip Richter, executive director of the elections commission,  said a second violation was found when the PAC stated that Treasurer Catherine Bulgrin “chose to ignore the previous board’s direction to Apply for the Meritorious Budget Award.”

A third allegation scheduled to be heard at the hearing on Jan. 26 was dismissed by the parties.

Richter said that although the PAC was cited for two violations, the matter was not referred for prosecution, and no other action will be taken against the Stow Citizens for Responsible Government.
