An Akron man charged with aggravated murder in the July slayings of his longtime girlfriend and their 5-year-old son made his first appearance Wednesday morning in Summit County Common Pleas Court.

Daniel T. Tighe, 39, of Breiding Road, attended the brief hearing with his attorneys for preliminary discussions about the review of police evidence.

The case, which carries death penalty specifications, has been assigned to Judge Lynne S. Callahan.

Tighe was arrested early this month following a Tallmadge police investigation that began in early August, when the bodies of Wendy Ralston, 31, along with their son, Peyton, were found buried and wrapped in bedding behind their home.

Court records show authorities believe the slayings occurred July 23.

Ralston’s mother, Marie Ralston, found the remains Aug. 10 while searching the property for her missing daughter.

A cause of death in both cases is pending.

Tighe is charged with murder, aggravated murder, two counts each of tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse and domestic violence. His next court appearance was scheduled for Nov. 6.

He remains in the county jail, unable to meet terms of a $1 million bond.
